On October 1st, Thomas Storvolleng Nilssen (36) stepped into the role as Chief Financial Officer at Mo Industripark. He joins the company from his previous position as CFO at Heymat and is already well underway, familiarizing himself with both people and responsibilities.

“I am very happy to be back in industry. This is where I thrive,” he says.

Full circle

Nilssen has a background as Head of Consulting at Mercantil Consult and has held financial leadership roles in both technology companies and international data center operations. He began his career under then-CFO Morten Grimsø at Glencore, at the same time Bjørn Ugedal was plant manager. He describes it as special to be back, now in Mo Industripark and with Ugedal as his CEO.

“I started my career in industry, so it feels a bit like coming home. I have always been fascinated by the complexity and the interplay between the companies here. It is an exciting machine to be part of,” says Nilssen.

CEO Bjørn Ugedal says he is very pleased with the appointment.

“We conducted a thorough process, even though the position was not advertised externally. It was important for us to bring in an experienced and reliable resource quickly. We talked with several strong candidates, but Thomas stood out with his broad background, strong professional profile and solid understanding of industry,” says Ugedal.

Engaged and versatile

Nilssen lives at Båsmo with his wife and three boys aged zero to nine. The family has a cabin in Stokkvågen, and everyday life is filled with football, dance and an active family schedule.

“Life is busy with three small kids, but I enjoy having a lot going on,” he says.

He also serves on the board of the local kindergarten Båsmbakken, where he has been involved since his oldest son started.

“I like being close to things, both at work and at home.”

Looking ahead

As CFO, Nilssen emphasizes the importance of combining strategic work with hands-on financial insight.

“I have never liked being completely removed from the accounting side. Being close to the numbers gives a different level of insight,” he says.

He is also passionate about adopting new technology in finance.

“I believe the ability to use tools like artificial intelligence and automation will be crucial going forward. It is about freeing up time, improving decision-making and finding smarter ways of working.”

Ugedal is looking forward to the collaboration.

“Thomas has an analytical and forward-looking approach that fits well with how we want to develop Mo Industripark. He brings energy, competence and new perspectives,” he says.
