Investing in People, Expertise and the Future
2 July, 2026 13:13 Del DelNorconsult has expanded and modernized its office in Mo i Rana. At the same time, the company is carrying out a planned leadership transition as Eirik Furunes takes over as Managing Director from Morten Rimer on 1 August.
There is still the scent of a newly renovated office at Norconsult in Mo i Rana. Over the past few years, the company has made significant investments in both its working environment and operational capacity, resulting in modern premises designed to support a growing professional organization.
The upgrade is part of a clear strategy: to create an attractive workplace while strengthening Norconsult’s position as a leading engineering and consulting company in the Helgeland region.
“The main reason is that we have grown steadily over time. We wanted to bring our professional teams closer together and create facilities that support both collaboration and focused work,” says Managing Director Morten Rimer.
Today, Norconsult has around 60 employees across its offices in Mo i Rana and Mosjøen, with Mo i Rana serving as the regional headquarters for Helgeland.
Investing in the Working Environment
While many companies are moving towards open-plan offices, Norconsult has chosen a different approach.
“It has been important for us to provide our employees with excellent working conditions. Much of our work requires concentration and professional immersion. That’s why we have prioritized private offices while also creating inviting meeting areas and social spaces,” says Rimer.
One deliberate design choice has been to bring key shared facilities together, encouraging employees to meet naturally throughout the working day.
“We want people from different disciplines to interact. The best solutions often emerge when experts from different fields collaborate,” he says.
According to the company’s employee surveys, the new facilities receive exceptionally positive feedback.
Industrial Expertise as a Driving Force
Helgeland is one of Norway’s most important industrial regions, and this is clearly reflected in Norconsult’s activities.
Over many years, the office has built extensive expertise in industry, energy, transportation and infrastructure. Its clients include major industrial companies, public-sector organizations and national businesses.
“Industry is one of our strongest areas of expertise. Our employees work on everything from process industry and energy projects to aquaculture and large-scale infrastructure developments,” says Rimer.
The company is involved in several major regional projects while also contributing to national assignments through Norconsult’s nationwide organization.
“Our primary ambition is to contribute to the development of Helgeland, but at the same time we are part of a company with around 7,000 employees. That gives us access to an exceptionally broad range of expertise,” he says.
Ready to Take the Baton
As the new office facilities are completed, the company is also entering a new chapter in its leadership.
From 1 August, Eirik Furunes will assume the role of Managing Director for Norconsult’s Helgeland offices, succeeding Morten Rimer.
Furunes has worked for Norconsult for 16 years, including the past eight years at the Mo i Rana office. He has played a key role in the company’s infrastructure projects and has extensive knowledge of both the organization and the region.
“We have a highly skilled professional team and many talented colleagues. That provides a strong foundation for continued development. I look forward to building on the solid platform that has already been established,” says Furunes.
For Rimer, it has been important that his successor comes from within the organization.
“We are proud to develop leaders from within. Eirik knows the company, our clients and the market extremely well, and I am confident that he will continue to develop the office in an excellent way,” he says.
A New Chapter
Although Rimer is stepping down as Managing Director, he will remain with Norconsult.
After 40 years in the industry, including 30 years as Managing Director and 21 years with Norconsult in Helgeland, he will now devote more time to project work and professional assignments.
“It will certainly feel different, but above all it feels right. I look forward to working more closely on projects again. At the same time, it’s reassuring to know that the office is in very capable hands,” he says.
With new office facilities, strong recruitment and a new Managing Director in place, Norconsult is well positioned for continued growth across the Helgeland region.
